National Award for Patent Holders - India

In a move to encourage innovation in India, Technology Information, Forecasting and Assessment Council (TIFAC) has initiated a unique program to reward and provide incentives to patent holders. TIFAC initiated the Technology Refinement and Marketing Programme (TREMAP) program in 2009 to bridge the gap between innovators and the market.

The program aims to identify patents owned by Indian individuals that can be commercialized, brought to the market or licensed. The award will carry a sum of Rs 5 Lakhs and a certificate recognizing the efforts of the patent owner. The selected patents will be commercialized using the Technology Commercialization Facilitators (TCFs) associated with TIFAC.

Few of the requirements/eligibility criteria are mentioned below:
A working prototype of the patented technology
Owned by an Individual (patents owned by organizations/corporations/associations do not qualify)
Applicant must be Indian and the sole owner of the patent
Year of grant should be after 2005

For the complete list of requirements and eligibility criteria, please click here. Individuals who are interested in applying may do so by clicking here

Please note that the last date for receipt of duly filled application forms along with supporting documents is August 8, 2011.

This is a wonderful opportunity for many innovators in India to showcase their talent and make utilization of this initiative to commercialize technology covered by their patents.

May the best innovator win. Best of Luck everyone !
